I was born at 11:22 p.m.. Full breach no less. My Mother used to say I was "half assed backwards ever since". I guess nothing the doctors did would turn me. Mother was in labor 72 hours. I was 6 pounds 8 ounces. Hard to believe that I am now 5'8" now and we won't even go to the weight. LOL But, I am still here 58 years later! I've done a lot of things in my life that I think most women haven't done or wouldn't do. Looking back at some of those things I'm wondering how I survived them too. LOL In my teens I worked party fishing boats. Baiting and gaffing. I got a $50 tip once when this guy didn't want his swordfish gaffed. I jumped in and got the small cargo net around the fish. I also used to win the fish cleaning pot too. I got pretty good with a knife. I also was a real beach rat during my early teens. Well, there wasn't really anything except Dissyland and Knotts berry farm and those cost a lot even then. My one girlfriend at the time, Donita Lloyd, and I used to collect pop bottles from the tourists on the beach, haul them up to the little mom and pop store and get some spending money. Ah those were the days of having melted Reese's peanut butter cups on the beach. We could pour the chocolate into our sodas and then just eat the peanut butter. Hey those were a treat then. My mother worked so being a "latch key kid" wasn't easy for a single mother then. I used to have to call her when I got up. Again at lunch. Then at 4 p.m. to see what I was to get out for dinner and do the prep for it. I was cleaning houses at 13. We had moved to Costa Mesa from Laguna Beach by then. Mother married my stepfather Bob and my love affair with this house began.
Never to early to get them started with some kind of hand work. LOL Jess loves crochet. She just needs a bit of help from time to time. Mostly she can figure out patterns. She crocheted a teddy bear for a friend for Christmas. The only trouble she had was sewing the parts together. She didn't use long quilt pins to attach parts. She does now-LOL I guess she sewed the head, but forgot about doing that in the round, so it needed to be done over.
Jess and I do instruction via computer. Thank goodness for scanners, email and msn messenger. Maybe, if things work out, I should have Jessica visit this summer. We could really get a lot of instruction done that way.
Well, we have rain. Not as much as some of the state. San Francisco really got battered by winds. People forget that we do get some really nifty storms in the winter. I can look back in one of my high school yearbooks and see where we had flooding in the 60's. I don't remember us having those mudslides then, but then there wasn't really any of those neighborhoods you see today. Plus, I think the construction on most of those "newer" neighborhoods just isn't up to what it should be.
My parents bought this little house back in 1961. Nothing fancy, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, lining room, dinning and kitchen. Garage is detached and out back. Now it's mine and I love it. Not just because it is paid for, but just the way it feels. Everyone who walks thru the front door feels comfortable. It's just one of those kind of houses. With what I have had done inside, I love it. Kind of like a make over for the interior. But no taking out of walls or that kid of thing.
Gotta check the "root cellar" to see if we have water. Other than that, we are ok.
